Dover Youth to Youth Receives “Youth in Action” Award

Recognized for impact on community and throughout the state of NHIMG_2095

Dover Youth to Youth was recently selected by New Futures to receive its annual Youth in Action Award. The students were recognized for their work locally and statewide at an awards ceremony at the Grappone Center in Concord Thursday night October 17th.

Several staff and 13 students traveled to the event to receive the award. The Youth to Youth program was recognized for its community programs, advocacy at the state house in Concord, and educational presentations in Dover and throughout the US.

In presenting the award Tricia Lucas, Advocacy Director for New Futures, specifically identified 3 Youth to Youth students attending the event that she had seen testify before the legislature on marijuana related issues. Lucas also referred to the student group as a “media powerhouse” for their production of radio and TV PSAs. Two recent video PSAs were then played for the audience.

Youth to Youth was also recognized for undergoing a 3 year evaluation of the program that resulted in the State of New Hampshire recognizing the Youth to Youth model as evidenced-based and scientifically supported.

Dover Youth to Youth is a large, after school youth empowerment program coordinated by the Dover Police Department’s Community Outreach Bureau. Students work in several teams of 18-25 students each to conduct projects and activities that promote health and reduce the effects of substance abuse.
